The Downsview Lands in north Toronto are comprised of five neighbourhoods that surround Downsview Park, one of Toronto’s largest urban green spaces. The site is owned by Canada Lands Company and is located at the former 572-acre (231.5-hectare) military base at one of the highest elevations in the City of Toronto.
The five Downsview Lands neighbourhoods are being designed as complementary to Downsview Park and are identified in the City of Toronto’s Secondary Plan for residential, employment and commercial development. Presently designated as the Stanley Greene, William Baker, Sheppard, Chesswood and Allen neighbourhoods, together, these five parcels represent one of the region’s most exciting community-building initiatives.
Incorporating input from local residents, community groups and city officials, the transition of these neighbourhoods is already underway. Stanley Greene started welcoming new residents in 2017 and in 2019, the William Baker neighbourhood District Plan process was initiated. Public consultations with the community will play a vital role in this ongoing process.
The Downsview Lands neighbourhoods will be interconnected, incorporating city transit, walking and cycling networks. These park-centered neighbourhoods will also feature innovative design and provide places to live, learn, work and play.
